ELT Research Submission Guidelines

ELT Research is IATEFL SIG’s newsletter. It’s published once a year and it carries reports of research in English language learning, teaching and assessment from around the world, news of research-related events, and links to web-resources which researchers will find useful. For more information on the newsletter and access to its back issues please see: http://resig.weebly.com/newsletter.html
  • DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR MANUSCRIPT: 30 June 2026
  • ESTIMATED PUBLICATION DATE: February 2027
 What can I contribute?
An article related to research in English language teaching, which could be:
  • A report of classroom research you have conducted
  • A report of how you have helped to engage teachers in research
  • A preliminary report or summary of research you are doing for a Master’s or PhD degree
  • A reflection on a conference experience or other professional development experience
  • Another type of article related to research – we encourage creativity, but please get in touch with us first: [email protected]
Please see word count guidelines here: Types of Article

When and how?
Submissions are accepted until the end of June each year (to be published in February of the following year).
Please use the submission form to send us your contribution.
If you would like to inquire about the suitability of the topic before writing your article, or would like to contribute but need an extension to the initial deadline, please get in touch with Chris at [email protected].
Your submission will be reviewed by two editors. They will work with you on any suggested changes to prepare your manuscript for publication. In the case that we cannot accept your submission, we will still provide feedback on your manuscript.
General guidelines:
  • Whatever the article type, your contribution needs to be oriented toward practitioners and teacher-researchers. Therefore, pedagogical and research implications are expected. Focus on what you did and on what others can do rather than on what they should do.
  • Your article should be written in a formal yet accessible style.
  • Do not include an abstract.
  • Your article must have a maximum of ten references. Use APA 7th ed. for formatting them. Please make sure you include in your text the page numbers for any direct quotes or for reference to information or ideas to be found on a specific page or pages of a reading source. Also, ensure that all sources cited in your text appear in your reference list and that the reference list only includes the sources in your text.
  • All titles should be written in sentence case.
  • The article can include tables, figures and photos (of the highest resolution possible) and captioned appropriately. If you use visuals, please make sure you refer to them in the body of the article. The visuals will appear in black and white in the print version.
  • We can accept a maximum of one appendix.

Please use the ELT Research Template.docx to format your document. Please don’t use any other features/styles apart from the ones available in the template.
