This poster presents a classroom research project conducted as part of the English Australia Action Research Programme in 2013. We investigated how we could improve our students’ ability to answer connected speech questions on the Cambridge English TKT: Knowledge About English (KAL) module through the creation of a variety of activities and strategies, appealing to different learner styles and involving a range of macro-skills. The poster outlines the process we followed, the effect our intervention had on our students, and our reflections on the whole process. We also discussed what we discovered about teaching primarily to improve awareness of language as opposed to language proficiency.
