We are delighted to announce that on 5th November 2018 at 9am UK time and 10am central Europe time, there will be a webinar on Action Research: Collecting and analysing data by Dr Emily Edwards, Lecturer, Academic Language and Learning Group, IML. University of Technology, Sydney, Australia.
Action research is a way of systematically exploring your teaching practice through planning, observing and reflecting on different actions (interventions) in order to better understand or improve teaching and learning in your specific context. The ‘observing’ stage of action research involves collecting data, for example via surveys, focus groups, interviews, observations, reflective journal writing, and/or assessments. For language teachers conducting action research for the first time, the idea of collecting and then analysing sets of data in these ways can be daunting. This webinar will help you plan ahead with strategies for the ‘observing’ stage of action research. I will introduce the main options for collecting data, which depend on your research focus, and provide examples of different data collection tools. I will then discuss ways of analysing the data, whether the data are quantitative (numbers) or qualitative (words).
The webinar will be of particular interest to teachers who are preparing to conduct action research for the first time.
