ReSIG Pre-Conference Event (PCE) 2023: 'Teacher Research and inclusion and social justice in language education'

Conference Programme

Date and time: Monday, 17 April 2023 (10.00-17.00 hrs)
Venue: Harrogate Convention Centre - Kings Road, Harrogate, HG1 5LA
Registration: here

Description:

As part of the the 56th IATEFL International Conference and Exhibition – Harrogate 2023, the IATEFL ReSIG will organise its Pre-Conference Event (PCE) on Monday, 17 April 2023. This year, the PCE will focus on exploring various aspects of Teacher Research and inclusion and social justice in language education. Our main goal is to share practical classroom-research tools (e.g., how-to-do strategies), showcase collective and individual projects and initiatives in different teaching and learning contexts worldwide, and discuss innovation, challenges, and paths forward within this emerging and dynamic area.

The day will start with a plenary workshop session led by Peter De Costa (Michigan State University) to set the scene for the day and provide a useful focus for subsequent talks. Peter's plenary workshop entitled 'Action Research and Autoethnography for social justice' will provide the audience with practical ideas on autoethnography with a social and inclusion perspective as a research approach and learning tool to engage in Teacher Research After Peter's workshop, we will have an invited speakers' session showcasing current Teacher Research projects being conducted in Africa, Asia and Europe with an inclusion and social justice perspective. This session will be followed by a number of interactive poster presentations by teachers/researchers who will share their experiences and insights into conducting teacher research with such a perspective. After both sessions, presenters will report on the feedback they received and discuss any points raised with the audience. In the afternoon, there will be a panel discussion with the invited speakers, who will reflect on and discuss the value and possibilities for Teacher Research and social justice in language education in today's changing times and contexts. The day will conclude at 17.00 hrs with an evaluation and a summary of themes raised over the day.

Below is the schedule of the day. We look forward to seeing you!
