Russell Stannard, teachertrainingvideos.com - Technologies’ impact on teacher training
Russell is especially known for his pioneering work in using screen capture technology to enhance feedback to students. He has produced two highly successful training sites using Camtasia videos and is considered to be one of the most influential users of screen capture in Education. He currently works as an Educational Consultant helping organisations to build online learning/blended learning courses as well as training staff in the use of technology all over the world. He specialises in the use of Camtasia, SnagIT, Google Products and virtual learning environments To date Russell has worked in 33 countries and has the British Council, Oxford University, the INTO group, Macmillan, Express Publishing, Quality Language Services and the BBC among his many clients. Russell will be talking about how he trains teachers on his website with screen capture.
Julia Huettner, University of Vienna - “This is messy”: using video as a springboard for teacher reflection’
Julia’s research addresses the learning and teaching of English in instructed settings. Within this large area, she has two focuses: educational approaches where English is used as a medium of instruction, both at school and at university level, and teacher cognition. Julia was Principal Investigator on a Teacher Education project: VELTE - Development of classroom video resource material for students of English Language Teaching and language teacher educators” at the University of Southampton. A practical outcome of this was a free digital resource for teacher educators, the VELTE website . On this site, teacher educators and student teachers can find video recordings of full-length lessons plus suggestions for tasks for teacher learning based on them. Julia will be talking about the affordances of VELTE materials in promoting student teachers’ reflection.
Thom Kiddle, Director at NILE, UK - Using Video for Asynchronous Multimodal Discussion and Sharing Opportunities Online
Thom has worked at NILE since 2011, after moving back to the UK from Chile where he was head of academic research and educational technology at the Chilean-British University. He has previously worked in Portugal, the UK, Australia and Thailand in language teaching, teacher training and language assessment. He has a Master’s degree in Language Testing from Lancaster University and the Cambridge Delta, and his role at NILE involves strategic and organisational management, and training and consultancy in a range of areas including testing and assessment, learning technologies, materials development and language teaching methodology. Thom will be talking about the use of video to develop multimodal asynchronous discussion and sharing opportunities in online programmes.
