My research explores my concern that my French computer engineering students seemed to have become less motivated by their oral presentations and that the quality appeared to have dropped. The procedure consisted of free writes, thematic analyses, and the creation of democratically agreed class action plans. My poster will include the rationale for repeating the project with different students, the five key innovative ideas for how to improve the presentations that emerged, and my conclusions: The students overwhelmingly endorsed the research approach, took ownership of the project, experienced learner awareness, showed more motivation and produced better presentations. The teacher was reminded that students come to the classroom as highly creative individuals with different experiences and expectations, felt empowered by the research approach and was motivated to explore its potential. The class was affected positively in terms of learner/learner, teacher/learner relationships and the learning environment, and a productive synergy was created through collaboration.
