About the conference
Nature of the conference
This two-day conference, which is a full IATEFL Research SIG conference organized in conjunction with Gediz University, is for sharing of teacher-research experiences among English language teachers across Turkey and beyond. The conference aims to provide opportunities to teachers to share their research relating to classroom practice with the wider ELT community in an informal, supportive and convivial atmosphere. The event also provides a platform for general reflection on the basis of a wide selection of teacher-research studies.
It is well-known that teacher learning and development is of crucial importance for the enhancement of the quality of teaching. Developing teaching competence through researching classroom problems is a valid way of bottom-up and process-based professional development. Such a development leads to deeper and more effective learning in teachers. It is this kind of teacher learning and development that this conference is focusing on. With this in mind, the international Teachers Research! - IATEFL Research SIG Annual International Conference & 5th Gediz University Annual Teacher Research Conference in Izmir, Turkey will feature talks and poster presentations by teachers themselves and insights from Anne Burns, Judith Hanks and Mark Wyatt as guest speakers. Their talks will provide new insights into a variety of aspects of teacher-research, with a close focus on theoretical and methodological issues and practical implications.
